Stephanie Graves on Healing Through Nervous System Support

What if feeling "fine" on the outside is exactly how your body hides that it's running on empty? For Stephanie Graves, learning to support her nervous system changed everything.

On this episode of the Fully Stoked Podcast, I sat down with Stephanie Graves, a former physician assistant turned functional medicine nutritionist, nervous system educator, and co-founder of The Conscious Crew. She's also a mom of four who homeschools her kids and runs a business with her husband. For years, Stephanie looked high-functioning from the outside while dealing with chronic anxiety, fatigue, and hormonal and digestive issues on the inside.

Key Takeaways

  • Looking successful on the outside can mask what your body is trying to tell you.

  • Your body treats chronic stress like real danger, and it can keep you stuck in survival mode.

  • Signs of a dysregulated nervous system include overreacting to stress, pain and fatigue, anxiety, and trouble focusing.

  • Nutrition, breathwork, bodywork, and somatic practices can work together to support healing.

When "High-Functioning" Isn't the Whole Story

Stephanie spent years checking every box while her body was quietly sounding the alarm.

"From the outside, it looked like I was high-functioning, successful... but on the inside, my body was starting to really talk to me."

After trying treatment after treatment, she found that real healing started when she learned to understand and support her nervous system.

Why Stress Is Stress to Your Body

One of my biggest takeaways from this conversation is that our bodies don't sort stress into categories.

"Our bodies can't differentiate stress from being chased by a bear versus chronic stress from work or poor nutrition."

So many of us are running in survival mode without realizing it, and it shows up in our health, our focus, and our relationships.

A Holistic Path Forward

Stephanie's approach brings together mindful nutrition, breathwork, bodywork, and other somatic practices to get to the root of what's going on.

"I've learned that food is medicine, and true healing occurs when we address the root causes of our health issues."

Your Turn

If you're the one holding everything together for everyone else, this episode is your reminder to slow down and listen to what your body is telling you. What signal have you been ignoring?
